PAFO GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND OTHER EVENTS (18-23 October 2021
11 years serving African farmers

After more than a year time of experience for our farmers, the 5th Ordinary General Assembly and Events of PAFO, including the 11th anniversary of the organization, will be held from 18 to 23 in October 2021 in Kigali, in compliance with health measures and of the protection framework put in place by the Government of Rwanda.
The General Assembly will be preceded by other events to which delegates from member networks, technical and financial partners of PAFO as well as African FOs are invited.

OVERALL OBJECTIVES OF THE EVENTS: 

  1. Provide a forum for PAFO’s governing bodies to discuss and approve the reports, programs, plans and activities implemented between two assemblies;
  2. Inform members, farmers and partners of PAFO’s commitment at continental and global levels;
  3. Provide a platform for knowledge sharing, exchanges, advocacy and lobbying between Farmers’ Organizations and with technical and financial partners.

PLANNED EVENTS :

FORUM OF RURAL WOMEN OF PAFO (October 18-19, 2021)
After a field visit on October 18, the forum continues in a hybrid format.

The promotion of women is one of the priorities of PAFO programs, and it is within this framework that the Rural Women’s Forum is held in order to bring together rural women across Africa in order to discuss and define their vision in relation to the strategic direction of PAFO. Rural women from all over the African continent would be in Kigali for field visits but also to define the specificities of rural women in the PAFO strategy; discuss the findings of the study “Financing agricultural value chains to empower rural women” as well as the main issues affecting rural women in agriculture”.

PAFO-AGRICORD COORDINATION MEETING (October 20, 2021)
The continental coordination meetings in Africa are the meetings organized periodically between PAFO and AGRICORD, to share experiences during the program implementation of Farmers’ Organizations for Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (FO4ACP) and SAFE 2020 and to encourage coordination efforts between Farmers’ Organizations (FOs) and Agri-Agencies (AAs) to explore more areas of collaboration and avoid duplication. The main objective of these FO4ACP and SAFE 2020 coordination meetings is to discuss the process of implementing the two programs and the coordination effort between FOs and AAs at the national, regional, and continental levels.

3- KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT (October 21)

As part of the capacity building of its member organizations, PAFO focuses on innovations in the agricultural and agri-food sectors. Thus, it capitalizes on experiences at the national, regional, and continental levels. As part of the GA, two Knowledge Management workshops will be organized, the purpose of which is to consolidate and extend the successful innovations of farmers.

During the Ordinary General Assembly, PAFO will elect a new president and will adopt a new composition of its Board of Directors.

The Pan African Farmers Organization (PAFO) is a continental platform whose membership base is made up of regional networks of farmers. PAFO is the voice of tens of millions of African farmers integrated in nearly 70 national organizations, unions, federations, cooperatives, associations, etc., present in nearly 50 countries of the continent, and united in five regional networks operating in the heart of the African agriculture, namely: Eastern African Farmers Federation (EAFF); Regional Platform of Farmers’ Organizations of Central Africa (PROPAC); Network of Farmers and Producers’ Organizations in West Africa (ROPPA); Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU) and Maghreb and North African Union of Farmers (UMNAGRI).
